Faculty of Education & Liberal Studies

The faculty was established in 2009 which consists of two departments, i.e. Department of Education and Languages and Department of Communication and Liberal Studies. Faculty of Education & Liberal Studies focuses on developing language proficiency and communication skills in the field of education (i.e. English Programmes), Public Relation, Advertising and a broad range of Communication Programmes. It is a great milestone, that today the faculty are proud to offer good academic programmes with the highest quality such as Bachelor of Education (Hons.) in TESL, Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in English and Professional Communication, Bachelor of Communication (Hons.) in Journalism, Bachelor of Communication (Hons.) in Corporate Communication, Bachelor of Mass Communication (Hons.), Diploma in Corporate Communication, Diploma in Mass Communication and Foundation of Arts along side with the Intensive English Programme. Programme Description

The Government is making it compulsory that all those involved in the care and teaching of pre-school children to be properly trained and educated so that they will be better equipped in developing young minds. Emphasizing the core values and skills required in the early childhood curriculum, this programme helps students to design, implement and evaluate appropriate learning experiences for early childhood settings. Students will also acquire a strong foundation in psychology to better understand young children’s mental processes and behaviours.

 

Entry Requirements

•  Passed SPM/SPMV/GCE O-Level with minimum 3 credits in any subjects

•  Passed Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) with at least Grade B in 3 subjects; or

•  Obtained Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) level 3 in related field and passed SPM with 1 credit; or

•  Passed Foundation/Matriculation/Pre-Universiti with CGPA 2.00;

•  Passed STPM with at least Grade C (CGPA 2.00) in one subject; or

•  Any qualifications equivalent and recognised by the Malaysian Government

Programme Description

The Intensive English Programme is designed to help students improve their proficiency
in the use of the English language in the shortest time possible. It is divided into
three courses. The three courses or levels are listed as follow: (1) ENL 01 – Elementary
Level; (2) ENL 02 – Intermediate Level; and (3) ENL 03 – Advanced Level. All three
levels are aimed at improving the language competency of the students in reading,
writing, speaking and listening.

 
ENL 01 is designed for students with a low level or poor grasp of the English language.
ENL 02 follows from ENL 01 and provides an intermediate stage for students before they
enter the advanced level. ENL 03 is the last phase of the programme where students
are exposed to more complicated forms of the language and articles which require a
greater understanding of the nuances of English.

• Sat for City U English Proficiency Test with a score below 99 OR IELTS/TOEFL/
Equivalent


Intermediate Level
• Sat for City U English Proficiency Test with a score of 100-120 OR IELTS/TOEFL/

We have received complaints from several City U students and members of the public on a number of activities being hosted by irresponsible parties without City City U’s permission. We would like to inform students that all activities and events by City U will be updated on City U’s official website (www.city.edu.my) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/CityUC). Any activities or events that are not listed in our website or Facebook page are deemed false. Should students come across any activities or events that are not listed in City U’s official website or Facebook page, they are encouraged to inform City U’s management team. Alternatively, they may contact our duty officer at 03-7949 1616 during office hours for further clarification. City U will not be responsible or held accountable for any payments made to third parties. Thank you for your kind assistance and cooperation.
