On 21st February 2025, City University Malaysia hosted the Forum Perdana: Ramadan dan Sosial Media – Pahala Berganda atau Fitnah Berpanjangan, a thought-provoking discussion on the role of social media during the holy month. With the rapid rise of digital platforms, the forum explored how online interactions can either amplify good deeds or become a source of negativity.

As guests arrived in the afternoon, the excitement was palpable. Students, lecturers, and invited speakers gathered in anticipation of an enlightening session. The event kicked off with welcoming remarks from the Naib Canselor of City University Malaysia, setting the tone for a discussion that was both insightful and relevant in today’s digital age.

The highlight of the forum was the engaging discourse by Ustaz Syamsul Debat and Shamsul Ghau Ghau, two prominent figures known for their wisdom and humour. With their signature wit, they dissected the impact of social media, emphasising its potential as a tool for spreading kindness, knowledge, and Islamic values. “Social media is like a mirror—what you put out reflects who you are,” Ustaz Syamsul reminded the audience. “If used wisely, it can be a means of gaining pahala. But if misused, it can lead to endless fitnah.”

As the sun set and the azan marked the time for iftar, attendees gathered for a warm and meaningful meal, exchanging thoughts and reflections beyond the digital world. The forum concluded with a shared commitment—to use social media as a force for good, ensuring that every post, comment, and share contributes positively to society.

Through this event, City University Malaysia reaffirmed the importance of responsible digital engagement, reminding everyone that even in the online sphere, our words and actions carry weight. May this Ramadan be a time of reflection, kindness, and meaningful connections—both online and offline.
