In a significant step towards environmental sustainability and community engagement, the Initiative Waste-To-Wealth, featuring the 1 Community 1 Recycling (1C1R) program, was launched with great enthusiasm in Taman Ikan Emas, Kuala Lumpur. The event, held in the bustling neighbourhood, was graced by Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), who officially inaugurated the program. Her presence underscored the government’s commitment to innovative and sustainable waste management practices. Also in attendance was Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Member of Parliament for Bandar Tun Razak, whose support highlighted the local importance of the initiative.
The Waste-To-Wealth initiative, particularly the 1C1R program, aims to revolutionise waste management by transforming waste materials into valuable resources through community-driven recycling efforts. This program not only addresses the critical issue of waste management but also fosters economic opportunities and environmental responsibility among residents. The collaborative involvement of government and community leaders emphasises the holistic approach required to tackle environmental challenges effectively.

City University Malaysia played a pivotal role in the event by sending students from the Faculty of Architecture and Built Environment (FOABE), Faculty of Creative Industry (FOCI), and Faculty of Allied Health & Sciences (FOAHS). These students showcased their talents and environmental awareness by creating two impressive murals for the initiative. The murals vividly depicted the transformative journey from waste to wealth, symbolising the potential for discarded materials to be repurposed into valuable and beautiful creations. Their artwork served as an inspiring visual reminder of the importance of creativity and innovation in addressing environmental issues.

Additionally, nursing students from City University’s Faculty of Allied Health & Sciences (FOAHS) were present to offer free health screenings to attendees. This initiative emphasised the comprehensive approach of the Waste-To-Wealth program, recognizing the link between environmental health and community well-being. The health screenings provided by the nursing students highlighted the importance of maintaining personal health as part of broader environmental sustainability efforts, aligning with the program’s overarching goals.
