City University Malaysia has again proven its excellence in interior design education with an extraordinary performance at the prestigious MIID Reka Awards 2024. For the sixth consecutive year, our students have brought home the coveted Gold Award, affirming the university’s standing as a leader in nurturing design talent.
This year’s Gold Award was proudly won by Ahmad Essam from Egypt for his exceptional project, Sabah Teh. Ahmad’s success is a testament to his hard work, creativity, and the strong foundation provided by City University Malaysia.
Adding to the list of accolades, two other students received Honourable Mention Awards. Nik Sofea Heidi Nik Feizal Haidi, from Malaysia, impressed the judges with her project, Rempah, which highlighted a deep connection to heritage through modern design elements. Similarly, Hannah Christopher, also from Malaysia, gained recognition for her project, Kenyalang, which celebrates the rich cultural traditions of Sarawak in a contemporary interior design context. Their achievements underscore the diversity and talent within the university’s interior design program.
Furthermore, Xu Yinghai, a student from China, was named a finalist for his project, Hai Bayu. His work demonstrated remarkable creativity and technical skill, securing him a place among the competition’s most promising talents.
Behind these successes is the unwavering guidance and dedication of our esteemed lecturer, Mr Muzamil Mutalib, who was honoured with the Gold Mentor Award.
