The Faculty of Hospitality & Tourism (FOHAT) at City University Malaysia recently organised an illuminating career talk, featuring prominent representatives from the Mandarin Oriental Doha. This event aimed to provide students with valuable insights into the hospitality industry and foster connections with leading professionals. The distinguished speakers were Joe Abi Raji, Restaurant Manager, and Hasna Rizmy, Human Resource Executive.

Joe Abi Raji began the session by sharing his extensive experience in restaurant management. He discussed the dynamic nature of the food and beverage industry, emphasising the numerous career opportunities available. Raji highlighted the importance of a strong work ethic, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment. His anecdotes from managing a high-end restaurant provided students with a realistic view of the industry’s demands and rewards.

 

Following Raji, Hasna Rizmy took the stage to offer insights from a human resources perspective. She spoke about the various roles and career paths within the hospitality sector, focusing on the importance of talent management and employee development. Rizmy’s presentation shed light on the critical role HR plays in maintaining a motivated and efficient workforce. She emphasised the need for strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and continuous learning to thrive in the hospitality industry.

The career talk was an eye-opening session for many attendees, who gained a deeper understanding of the hospitality industry’s inner workings. Both Raji and Rizmy provided new knowledge that bridged the gap between theoretical learning and practical application.
