Kuala Lumpur, 7 November, 2024 – City University Malaysia very own Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Rosnizah Shaari participated in the inaugural U.S-Malaysia Vice-Chancellor Round Table 2024, organized by Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE), in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia and the United States Embassy in Malaysia. Officiated by the Minister of the Ministry of Higher Education, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, and His Excellency Edgard D. Kagan, the U.S. Ambassador to Malaysia, this occasion aims to facilitate a high-level discussion on the future of U.S.-Malaysia collaboration in higher education.

MACEE hosted the event, to further enhance collaboration and foster academic exchange opportunities between the two countries, bringing together Vice-Chancellors from an unprecedented fourteen (14) public and private Malaysian universities. The event provided an opportunity for these leaders to engage directly with MACEE and Honorary Co-Chairs – Minister of Higher Education Malaysia and the U.S. Ambassador to Malaysia.

“Over 3,000 students have participated in this program,” said Curtis Johnson, Executive Director of MACEE. “MACEE stands as a symbol of the enduring partnership between Malaysia and the United States, dedicated to promoting intellectual exchange and mutual respect through education. The work we accomplish today will lay the foundation for future generations, driving innovation, collaboration, and shared success.”

His Excellency Edgard D. Kagan noted that the future holds immense potential for expanding educational exchanges and reinforcing the global connections between the two nations. “The U.S. government remains fully committed to enhancing these partnerships, ensuring that both nations continue to benefit from opportunities in education, innovation, and cooperation as we work toward a shared vision for the future,” he said.

“As we continue to benefit from 67 years of bilateral relations, it is equally important for U.S. institutions to gain deeper insight into Malaysia’s social and educational advancements. Beyond academia, these partnerships will promote cultural understanding and nurture people-to-people connections, laying the foundation for a stronger bilateral relationship,” said Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir in his keynote address. “Education is a powerful driver of growth, innovation and mutual understanding, and we believe that strong partnership in this area will benefit not only our countries, but the Asean region as a whole. By strengthening our education ties, we can empower future leaders, drive sustainable development and foster cultural exchange that bridges both our societies.”

The Vice-Chancellor round table explored key areas of mutual interest, including academic exchanges, research partnerships, and initiatives to enhance capacity-building and knowledge transfer. City University Malaysia hopes to play a pivotal role in nurturing and shaping future leaders and becoming champions. City University Malaysia will continue to participate in programs that would add value to our students, to address the ever evolving challenges facing higher education.

City University Malaysia formalized partnership with MACEE through Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) back in July 2024, representing MACEE’s concerted effort to formalize the relationship between Malaysian Universities and the Fulbright Program
